A daily check-in app for outdoor adventurers

Give your safety circle a clear signal that you are off the trail and home safe.

Replacing the 'text me when you get back' promise

Most outdoor trips end with a promise to text someone when you are back. Cell service, fatigue, and a drive home often delay that message, and the person waiting does not know whether you are late or in trouble.

A scheduled check-in turns the promise into a system. When you get back, you tap. If you do not, your circle knows something is off.

  • No location tracking: You share a status, not your GPS coordinates. Your route stays private.
  • Works with weak signal: The check-in sends when you have coverage, so your circle only sees it when you are back in range.
  • Group trips are easier: A shared circle for the trip means everyone sees who is back and who is not.

What it is not

Just Checking In is not an emergency beacon, satellite messenger, or search-and-rescue tool. For remote areas, carry a proper communication device and leave a trip plan with someone who can act if you do not return.

The app adds a human layer: the people who care about you know when your status changes, and they can decide what to do next.

A suggested setup

  1. 1Set a check-in time for when you expect to be back in service, with a buffer.
  2. 2Add one to three people who know your route and can raise an alarm if needed.
  3. 3Agree on the response plan: how long to wait, who calls, who contacts help.
  4. 4Use vacation mode for trips where you will be off-grid for days.

Just Checking In is not an emergency or rescue service. For backcountry safety, use a dedicated satellite communicator or emergency beacon and leave a trip plan with a trusted contact.
