Go out alone with people who would notice you never came back.
A private circle that expects a check-in from you each day. If it does not arrive, they know, instead of finding out days later.

It's Time to Check In
Back from the trail?
Riley checked in
Off the ridge and heading home.
Riley hasn't checked in
Last check-in was yesterday.
Your circle sent ❤️
Somebody is keeping count.
A real safety net, not a maybe
A missed check-in notifies your circle, so nobody has to guess whether your silence is normal.
Reciprocal between partners
Everyone in the circle checks in, so it works for a whole climbing or running crew.
No tracking, no battery drain
Nothing runs in the background. You check in when you are back in signal.
“I really like the ease of use of this app. I enjoy the timed reminders and being able to create a circle of trusted people.”
“Every single day at my appointed time I receive a notification to check in. I find comfort in knowing that someone is looking out for me.”
How to set it up
- 1
Add the people who know your plans
Two or three who know your usual routes and who to call locally.
- 2
Set the check-in for after you are usually back
Late afternoon or evening, so a gap actually means something.
- 3
Write down the response
Who calls first, who calls the trailhead or ranger station, and when.
Private by default
- Invite-only circles with nothing public and nothing shared beyond them.
- No location tracking and no background activity monitoring.
- Free to start, on iPhone and Android.
Common questions
Does it work without signal on the trail?+
You need a connection to send a check-in, so most people check in before heading out or once they are back in coverage. Nothing runs while you are out.
Is this a substitute for a satellite messenger or beacon?+
No. It cannot call for rescue or transmit your position. Keep using a beacon or satellite device for backcountry emergencies.
What happens when I miss a check-in?+
Your circle is notified. On Premium, a chosen contact can also be reached by SMS.
Can my regular running partners share one circle?+
Yes. Circles are reciprocal, so every member checks in and every member can see the others.
Set the net before the next solo day out.
A few minutes now means somebody notices on the day it matters.
Read how to build a safety net circleJust Checking In is not an emergency or rescue service and does not detect accidents or dispatch help. Carry an appropriate emergency device and contact local emergency services when help is needed.
Just Checking In is not therapy, medical care, an emergency service, or a crisis line. In a crisis, contact local emergency services.
